2011 CC Pastor’s Conf-day3

Day 3 of the 2011 Calvary Chapel Senior Pastor’s Conference:

#1: Don Steward Session (10:10am PST)

Don Stewart—Session #1

The Passion For The Rapture is the theme for this message. Someone had suggested Harold Camping for this session, but then somebody else said, “No, he won’t be around by then!”

Daniel 12:4-10, “4 “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” 5 Then I, Daniel, looked; and there stood two others, one on this riverbank and the other on that riverbank. 6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?” 7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished. 8 Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, “My lord, what shall be the end of these things?” 9 And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. 10 Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.”—Don states that there are five essential truths that are essential for us to know.

1)—These things of the end times will not be understood “until” the time of the end. Daniel was told to seal up the book for now because only at the time of the end will people understand. There used to be a tract that talked about the increase of knowledge that would happen at the end times, but the knowledge itself was understanding of prophesy of the book of Daniel and the end times.

2)—There will be 3 ½ years of Great Tribulation that will occur before the end. Daniel, the prophet, didn’t understand these things until the end. There is the vision given to Daniel of the four kingdoms to occur, but then later Daniel asks for understand and he has a similar vision of these kingdoms, but it was much different, the kingdoms were very evil. Man’s view of history and God’s view of history are very different. Daniel gets God’s view of history.

3)–Daniel didn’t get to understand what we are talking about today.

4)—These matters are sealed until the time of the end.

5)—The wicked will not understand these things, but the wise will understand.

Matthew 13:16-17, “16 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; 17 for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”.—For the last 3,000 years people have been yearning to see and understand the things that we are seeing and understanding concerning the fulfillment of prophesy of the end times.

2,500 years Daniel was told that there would come of time that those who are “wise” will understand these things of the end times, because they will understand what the word of God says about these things.

200-300 years ago there were a group of Bible commentators who got together and guessed what the world would be like today, and they said that because the Bible says so, Israel will come back into the land, but they will come back into the land in unbelief. They knew there would be unbelief because they would build a temple for sacrifice. They assumed that it must happen simply because the scripture states that this would happen. This group of people were ridiculed and made fun of and no one thought it was ever possible that Israel could again become a nation.

DeHann once said concerning the scripture, “If the literal sense makes, then seek no other sense, lest you come up with nonsense”.

Israel has to exist, they have to come back to have a temple, they have to take control of the temple mount, and they have to offer sacrifice—all because the Bible says that this is what is going to happen.

After the 1948 war, Jewish theologians knew that there had to be another war because the scripture states that Israel had to have control of the temple mount, and that war gained that for them.

The news media do not understand what is going on in the world and in Israel, but we who are wise and understand the scriptures will understand.

Three scriptures tell us about the rapture: John 14:1-3; 1 Cor. 15:51-52; 1 Thess. 4:13-18:

John 14:1-3, “1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

1 Corinthians 15:51-52, “51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, “13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

Phil 3:21 talks about new bodies we will receive, it will be rebuilt. 1 Cor. 15:58 also tells us about the new body, as does 1 John 3.

Among Bible believing people’s views there are 7 views concerning the rapture:
1)—No rapture, the rapture scriptures were spiritualized.
2)—Partial rapture, as the final week of Daniel occurred, certain people would start disappearing.
3)—Pre-tribulation rapture.
4)—Mid-tribulation rapture.
5)—Prew-wrath rapture, about 18 months before the end of the tribulation.
6)—Post-tribulation rapture, at the end of the tribulation the rapture happens.
7)—The rapture will happen someday some way, who knows.

Don determined that he would take each of these views as his own, find the best commentators of them, and then try to argue their views. There are good people who believe all of these views, by the way.

Here is what he concluded:
1)—God wants us to know (Daniel makes it completely clear this is the case).
2)—The closer we get to the end the clearer it will become.

Conclusion: The pre-tribulation rapture view is the only view that can handle all of the objections against the view. Don was attending a Baptist church at the time and really not affiliated with any denominations.

Reasons to accept the pre-tribulation rapture view he came to conclude:

1)—The pre-tribulation view was the only one that took seriously the warnings in the scriptures about being ready always for Jesus’ return. All of the other views give you reason to not have to be ready at any time, you always have more time until the Lord returns. He is kind of a procrastinator by nature, and really all of the other views allow us to be procrastinator.

2)—This is called “The Blessed Hope”, the return of Christ, and it cannot become the 7 years of tribulation.

3)—It is much more exciting and urgency for the return of Christ when you take up the pre-tribulation rapture view, and this view only gets you out there doing more things to win people to Christ and live a godly life.

We have to always be ready and live in the constant expectation of the Lord’s return. James in his book speaks of this life as being short, like a vapor that comes up from a fire for a while and then it is gone.

Mut and Jeff, a cartoon strip, had a cartoon one time in which one of them posed the question of what would you do if you knew the Lord was coming to the earth soon. The conclusion was, “I wouldn’t go near the place.”

Exhortation #1: Never confuse the gospel with the second coming event. The main message of the church has to be the first message, the message of the cross, people need to know how to get saved.

J. Vernon McGee had a taxi driver who was driving him once ask him what he thought about the second coming of Christ, a message he had heard at church. J. Vernon told him, “I don’t think that it is the second coming of Christ that you need to be concerned about right now, it is his first coming”. Then, he shared the gospel with the man.

Exhortation #2: Lets never forget that it is all about Jesus. The reason why were are looking at these things about the second coming is because is Jesus is coming.

Exhortation #3: Lets never use unwarranted sensationalism. Just tell it like it is, tell people the facts of what the Bible says will happen. Tell them that in the future all of the nations are going to come against Israel, etc. We just need to tell them about the events that will happen and not try to add the drama nor exaggeration.

He wants this message to move us, thrill us, to do something to us. We are here now in these last days, we are seeing what is happening, it is all around us, and we are going to be seeing all that we do.

Exhortation #4: There must be a tremendous urgency because of His soon coming. We aren’t promised tomorrow, the day is approaching and can be here any day. We need to tell people and warn them.

Some Monks were once asked a question… “What if you could know that Christ is returning in 20 minutes, what would you do?” This is a profound question. These monks said they would go to the chapel and pray. But, Ignatious responded that he wouldn’t go and pray if the Lord were returning in 20 minutes, he would just continue doing what he was doing. The reason was that he was always read.

Some people who were once on a ship in which they were sure the ship was going to go down, and everyone but D.L. Moody went downstairs to pray. Somebody found Moody up leaning over a rail, and he asked Moody why he wasn’t down praying with everybody, and Moody said, “Because, I’m prayed up!”

In the 1800s, there once was a pastor who thought that he was an abject failure because for one year he had preached the gospel to people and he only had one convert. A bishop was trying to console the man, but the man stated that his only convert wasn’t even an adult, he was just a little boy. Wee Bobby Moffat became Robert Moffat the great evangelist to Africa, and God used him more than all of the men in that church were ever used. But, that pastor didn’t know how God would use that boy.

We have only one day left to preach the gospel, for the sun is already setting on our age. We need to get busy and get after the preaching the gospel because people are perishing for eternity and will perish when Jesus returns.

Don prayed for us to have a passion for the Lord, a passion based upon the knowledge that the Lord is soon to return. He prayed that God would help us to be ready to preach, ready and prepared to share our faith.

#2: Norm Geisler Session (1:30pm PST)

*****Note: Norm spoke very fast using a Powerpoint presentation with outlines and many scripture references and points, and it was impossible to keep up with his message. So, these points here are merely the big general outline of his points without including the many subpoints and verse references. This was a very good message and very much worth listening to, and my notes don’t even come close to covering it, so please make sure to purchase the DVDs of the conference and listen to it in its entirety…

Premillennialism: Why Is It Important?

He says that it is good to be here and he is glad to be here, and, at his age it is good to be anywhere!

“Thy kingdom come”, Jesus taught, “as it is in heaven”.

1)–What is Premillennialism?
Christ will return before the 1,000 millennium.
There is also Amillennialism and Postmillennialism.

It was declared by the early fathers (this is not a new view), and also by the medieval fathers, early English, early American, 19th Century American, and 20th Century.

It is described in the Bible as beginning in Rev. 19:11-21.
Length is found in Rev. 20:1-7.
Satan will be chained in Revl. 20:2-3.

Revelation 19:11-16, “11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”

The millennium is mentioned 6 times in the New Testament.

Isaiah 9:6-7, “6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”

Satan will be bound for a thousand years when Christ returns.

The people of the Millennium…

Matthew 25:31-34, “31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world”.

People who enter the Millennium will be saved people and will reign with him.

Luke 19:15-22, “15 “And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. 16 Then came the first, saying, ‘Master, your mina has earned ten minas.’ 17 And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.’ 18 And the second came, saying, ‘Master, your mina has earned five minas.’ 19 Likewise he said to him, ‘You also be over five cities.’ 20 “Then another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I have kept put away in a handkerchief. 21 For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You collect what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’ 22 And he said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was an austere man, collecting what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow.

1 Corinthians 3:1-2, “1 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able;”

2 Corinthians 5:10, “10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”.

Isaiah 11:11, “11 It shall come to pass in that day That the Lord shall set His hand again the second time To recover the remnant of His people who are left, From Assyria and Egypt, From Pathros and Cush, From Elam and Shinar, From Hamath and the islands of the sea.”

Matthew 19:28 (NKJV)
28 So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Isaiah 2:2-3, “2 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it. 3 Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”

Animal natures shall be changed: Isaiah 11:6-9, “6 “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child shall lead them. 7 The cow and the bear shall graze; Their young ones shall lie down together; And the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8 The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den. 9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.”

The curse will be reversed: Romans 8:18-23, “18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.”

Revelation 20:7-9, “Revelation 20:7-9, “7 Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. 9 They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.”

Revelation 20:11-14, “11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.”

There will be a new heaven and earth after the Millennial. The Ammillennialists confuse these, but the new heavens and earth will last forever, not 1,000 years, and thus there is no way that the Ammillennial view can be true.

Why is ‘premillennialism’ so important?
1)—Without a millennium, God lost the war.
There must be a literal paradise regained, and God regains all things.
2)—Without a millennium, history has not an end, it is cut off at the ankles ‘
There is no place to take off into without a millennial reign.
3)—Denying it denies other essential doctrines.
Premillennialism is based upon a literal. Denying it leads to heresy
He went on to explain all of the many ways that this leads to heresy.
4)—Without a Millennium, God would break an unconditional land promise to Israel.
Genesis 15:18, “18 On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates.”
The duration of the land promise: Genesis 13:15 (NKJV)
15 for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.
Genesis 17:8, “8 Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.” Psalm 89:28-37, “28 My mercy I will keep for him forever, And My covenant shall stand firm with him. 29 His seed also I will make to endure forever, And his throne as the days of heaven. 30 “If his sons forsake My law And do not walk in My judgments, 31 If they break My statutes And do not keep My commandments, 32 Then I will punish their transgression with the rod, And their iniquity with stripes. 33 Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him, Nor allow My faithfulness to fail. 34 My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips. 35 Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David: 36 His seed shall endure forever, And his throne as the sun before Me; 37 It shall be established forever like the moon, Even like the faithful witness in the sky.””

5)–The gifts and call of God are irrevocable: Rom. 11:29. Psalm 8
28 My mercy I will keep for him forever, And My covenant shall stand firm with him. 35 Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David: 36 His seed shall endure forever, And his throne as the sun before Me; 37 It shall be established forever like the moon, Even like the faithful witness in the sky.”
Without a Millennium, God would break a covenant with David for a son.

6)— Without a Millennium man’s deepest longings for Utopia will go unfilled.

7)—Without a Millennium we lack an urgency in evangelism.

8)—Without a Millennium we lack an incentive for holiness.
Imminence is an added incentive for holiness. 2 Peter 3:10-11, “10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,”

Things are going to get worse Jesus said: Matthew 24:4-21, “4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. 15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. 18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.”

The outlook is dark. The up-look is bright! He isn’t looking for the undertaker, he is looking for the upper-taker.

He read the poem: The King Is Coming

“The trumpet case is open”-marquee on a church.

#4: David Jeremiah Session (7:15pm PST)

“A Passion for the Return of Jesus Christ”.

He has watched with amazement what our great movement has done in planting churches all over the world. He was over in Europe and there was a man at the Thornberry Castle and was performing a wedding, and it turned out that the man was with a Calvary Chapel.

We have some fires in California the last few years that have devastated the area. He was preparing a message called, “The Great Disappearance”, just as there were 16 simultaneous fires burning. A million people were being evacuated that day, the biggest in CA history, and he put on the screen that morning the title and called it, “The Great Evacuation”.

When Christ returns for the church in the rapture, jet airplanes will crash, trains will crash, and all kinds of chaos will occur everywhere when Christians all over are lifted up from the earth. Many will suddenly find their wives have disappeared, and husbands their wives.

There are two events coming in the future, the Rapture, and the Second Coming of Christ (this will occur at the end of the 7 year Tribulation: Revelation 1:7, “7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.”). The Rapture will occur before the 7 year Tribulation of the book of Revelation, and John 14:1-4 discusses this. 1 Thess. chapter 4 tells us also about the Rapture.

In the church in Thessalonica, there were many who were confused about what would happen when Christ returned. Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 about what will happen to their loved ones who have already passed away before He returns.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-17, “13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”
–Paul tells the Thessalonians first of all that he doesn’t want them to be ignorant. J. Vernon McGee said, “The Ignorant Brethren are the biggest congregation in the world”.

Paul says that he doesn’t want them to worried. Paul writes that some are ‘asleep’, and this refers to death. There are many passages in the scriptures that use the word ‘sleep’ to refer to death. Acts 13:36, “36 “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption;”

The word used for “Rapture” means to violently snatch away.

The word for “cemetery” in the Greek was used to refer to a hotel.

1 Corinthians 15:20 is another scripture that makes this clear, “20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.”

So, Paul dispels the ignorance of the believer, and then he goes on to say how the rapture will happen. We as pastors have something to offer people of the world something that cannot get anywhere else. Christ took the sting of death away from the believer so that when we die now we will go directly to the Lord.

David worked as a chaplain in the hospital, and he would get a message that there was someone that needed his council. And, the one thing that he observed is that within 5 minutes of meeting with a family who is going through a tragedy, he could tell if the family were believers. He has seen horrible grief responses from unbelievers including people who are banging their heads against the floor.

Paul uses the language in this phrase that tells us that he was confident that this true and also that it occurred as a result of revelation of Christ: “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that…”

Notice here that Paul writes that in the Rapture that the Lord Jesus Himself who is coming down for us: “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God”.

The three sounds here are written in such a way that they are to be considered three aspects of one sound: “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God”.

The resurrection of Christians who have died will have priority and occur first before the Rapture. “And we who are alive and remain will be caught up”.

One of the meanings of the word translated “caught up” means to be “caught up speedily”. “It will be in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye” that this will occur. It is hard to imagine what that time will be like.

The blind will see, the elderly will be restore, those with infirmities will be healed, all laws of physics and biology will be superseded, and the church will be caught up with Him at that time to be with Him in the clouds.

Some scriptures intimate what the Rapture will be like, and they use this same word translated here as “caught up”:
Hebrews 11:5, “5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.”

2 Kings 2:11, “11 Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.”

Acts 1:10-11, “10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, 11 who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.””

1 Thessalonians 4:17, “17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”

We are going to see heaven as it is, and we are going to see it with those who have gone on before us, and we are going to be with Jesus, and be with Him for eternity!!!

It is a reunion with Jesus, and it is a reunion with all believers who have gone on before us. We will never ever be away from the Lord after this.

The comforting purpose of the rapture: “Therefore comfort one another with these words.” God has this thing under control. Your grandparents are safe, your parents are safe, and soon He will come for you and you will be safe.

We are to encourage one another “continually” with these words, that is what the language of this states. We as pastors have comforted people many times with these words, and this is the best comfort we could ever have.

David is a cancer survivor, and there was a man at this center where he had been treated that determined that they should have a “Faith and Cancer” night. A rabbi was there and was supposed to share his faith, and then David was going to share. The rabbi was brilliant and he was a bit intimidated. But, the rabbi in his message mocked and made fun of God healing anyone stating that if God didn’t cause the cancer then why would He ever heal. When David got up and spoke he said that he got the cancer because he was human, but then he stated that he had a hope in heaven and God is his healer. Afterwards, the host said anyone could come up afterwards and talk to either one of them. A big line formed in front of him, but not a single person lined up in front of the rabbi.

1)–We need to lift up our heads and be looking for the Lord: Philippians 3:20, “20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 1:10, “10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.”
2)—We need to live godly lives: Titus 1:11, “11 whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.”
2 Peter 3:11, “11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness.”
2 Peter 3:14, “14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;”
1 John 2:28, “28 And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.”
1 John 3:2-3, “2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”
3)—We need to be sharing this truth of the gospel with others

We have an anchor of hope, and this hope is an anchor that is in heaven.

When they had those fires in CA, they gave all of the people who signed up to a list a cell phone that would tell them the fire was close and to get out. When you received the call you were supposed to leave. However, some did not sign up for the list, and thus they were not called. Others received a call but it came late because they were not on the list, and thus they didn’t get it. The point is that if you were on the list, you would be saved. People need to be on the roll of heaven, the Lamb’s Book of Life, or they will not be evacuated when Jesus returns.

David left us with this verse after showing a rapture video: Matthew 24:42, “42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.”

David prayed for us that we would have an urgency before us because of the soon return of Christ, and strength to have the passion for souls to share the gospel that we need to have, for He will be coming soon.

Jim and Jim — David Jeremiah is from my home town (El Cajon) and one of my favorite pastors and teachers. His love for God and God’s people is evident in his teaching and ministry. And he is really solid and well-focused on the right things in his teachings on Revelation. You can get the CDs or downloads online I think.
